Last Friday I was invited to lunch at Jamie's Italian in Brighton. Being a Friday and it being just around the corner from my studio I said a very firm yes. At 1pm myself and partner in crime Miss Amy Phipps took ourselves for a very extended lunch break (with wine).
It was fairly busy but a table was ready and waiting for us. We had a booth table which was lovely. After ordering our drinks, first and foremost we then started to peruse the menus. Amy is a strict vegan and while I dabble in dairy free I was still interested to see what they had on offer. We asked our waitress and she came back with a whole separate vegan menu. Both of us really appreciated this touch. Sometimes you can spend so long scouting menus for little v's only to find it includes cheese.
We started with some bread and olives to share which were yummy and perfect for soaking up the first glass of wine we drank a little bit too fast in our excitement of being out for lunch. We actually both went for the same main dish which was the superfood salad with a side of funky chips (it's not a treat lunch without chips!) and we shared a portion of brocolli.
I really enjoyed the salad. It contained half an avocado, fennel, garden leaves, shredded asparagus & courgettes with candied beets, cime di rapa & a mix of grains, shoots, nuts & seeds. Served with smashed cannellini bean hummus & fennel blossom harissa. It really was delicious and super filling.
With little room to spare we shared a portion of sorbet (also all vegan/dairy free!). We went for elderflower, mango and lemon and they were exactly what we needed. A little sugary pick me up that also cleansed the pallet.
We had a brilliant time and I'd particularly like to thank our waitress, Sophie B who went out of her way to answer all our questions.
